JAZZ SEMICONDUCTOR ACHIEVES CERTIFICATION FOR OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH
AND SAFETY ASSESSMENT SERIES (OHSAS)
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., July 31, 2007 - Jazz Semiconductor
(AMEX: JAZ), a leader in RF and Analog foundry solutions, today
announced that it has achieved certification to OHSAS 18001: 1999,
a specification which was created from the British Standard for
Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (BS 8800). The
OHSAS 18001 is an internationally accepted specification that defines
the requirements for establishing, implementing and operating an
Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS). An OHSMS
is a framework that allows an organization to consistently identify
and manage operational risks, reduce the potential for accidents,
help achieve compliance with health and safety legislation, and
continually improve its performance.
The OHSAS 18001 specification provides a structured approach and
guidance on how to manage the health and safety aspects of business
activities more effectively, while taking into consideration hazard
identification, accident prevention, risk reduction and the well-being
of employees. It was developed with the assistance of a number of
international third party certification bodies, national standards
bodies, and other interested parties. It fills a void, in that there
is currently no international ISO standard suitable for independent
third-party certification. OHSAS 18001 has three objectives: to
minimize risk to employees and others, improve business performance,
and assist organizations in establishing a responsible image within
the marketplace.
"As a company dedicated to a safe working environment, we
are continually building upon our health and safety program to protect
employees against injuries, and we are proud to have achieved the
OHSAS 18001 certification for our manufacturing facility,"
said Gil Amelio, chairman and chief executive officer of Jazz Technologies.
"Our Health and Safety Policy helps manage and minimize risks
to our employees and improves the overall operational efficiency
of our organization."
The OHSAS 18001 specification was designed to be compatible with
ISO 9001:2000 (Quality Management Systems) and ISO 14001:2004 (Environmental
Management Systems). Jazz has achieved both of these certifications
and it was the first U.S. semiconductor company to achieve the ISO
27001:2005 (Global Information Security) standard. Jazz has integrated
the four management systems: quality, environmental, information
security, and safety to ensure compliance and continuous improvement
across the organization.
